When to visit Greece, really?
The high season stretches from April to October, but each month reveals a different Greece. In spring, the Peloponnese is carpeted with poppies and archaeological sites — Delphi, Mycenae, Olympia — can be explored in soft light, before the crowds arrive. July and August remain the hottest months: they're ideal for the breezy Cyclades, Crete or the Sporades, where the sea offsets the heat. September is arguably the favourite season for discerning travellers: warm waters, tavernas still open, crowds thinned out. Autumn suits hiking in Epirus or the Meteora, and even winter has its charm, between urban Athens and the snow-capped villages of the Pindus.
